liquidVietnamese: chất lỏng
Còn gọi:Also called: pha lỏng · trạng thái lỏng · liquid phase

A liquid is the state of matter with a definite volume but no fixed shape; its particles are in contact yet can slide past one another, so a liquid flows.
Intuition: Think of a crowd packed into a train station: the number of people stays the same, and everyone is shoulder to shoulder, so the crowd can't be squeezed smaller. People slip past one another to flow in streams and follow the outline of the floor, but they pile up only along the bottom instead of spreading up to the ceiling.

A liquid is the state of matter that has an essentially definite volume but no shape of its own. Its particles stay close together without being locked in place, so they slide past one another, allowing the liquid to flow and take the shape of the bottom of its container.
The liquid phase exists when thermal motion is strong enough to destroy the ordered arrangement of a solid but too weak to pull the particles apart into a gas. Surface tension, viscosity, and vapor pressure all reflect the strength of intermolecular attractions and the motion of the molecules.
Dùng để liên hệ áp suất hơi ở hai nhiệt độ hoặc tính nhiệt hóa hơi từ hai cặp số liệu.Use it to relate vapor pressures at two temperatures, or to find the enthalpy of vaporization from two pressure–temperature data pairs.

Use it for the heat absorbed in complete vaporization at the boiling point or released on condensation; do not use for that same stage.

London dispersion forces act in every liquid, polar ones included.
A large molecule with many electrons can have dispersion forces stronger than the dipole–dipole attractions of a small molecule, so a polar substance does not always boil at a higher temperature than a nonpolar one.
Boiling does not break the covalent bonds inside molecules.
Vaporization only overcomes the attractions between molecules, so the molecules that enter the vapor phase remain intact.
At the same external pressure, a low vapor pressure usually goes with a high boiling point.
Strong intermolecular forces let fewer molecules escape the surface at a given temperature, and a liquid boils when its vapor pressure equals the external pressure.
Khi so sánh nhiệt độ sôi, hãy gọi tên lực liên phân tử.
Name the intermolecular forces whenever you compare boiling points.
State which force dominates in each substance, compare their strengths, and connect that to the energy needed to separate the molecules.
Identify hydrogen bonding only when H is bonded directly to N, O, or F.
Check the structural formula; the mere presence of oxygen is not enough. A substance that cannot hydrogen bond with itself can still hydrogen bond with water if the water supplies the H.
