vapor pressureVietnamese: áp suất hơi
Còn gọi:Also called: áp suất hơi bão hòa

Vapor pressure is the pressure exerted by the vapor above a liquid or solid in a closed container at a fixed temperature, when vapor and condensed phase are in dynamic equilibrium.
Intuition: Picture a capped bottle of perfume: molecules keep escaping and returning, and how "crowded" the vapor above the liquid becomes is the vapor pressure.
Vapor pressure is the pressure of a vapor in dynamic equilibrium with its liquid or solid phase in a closed container at a given temperature. At equilibrium, molecules enter the vapor phase as fast as they return to the condensed phase, even though the exchange never stops.
Vapor pressure rises as temperature rises. At the same temperature, stronger intermolecular forces give a lower vapor pressure. A liquid boils when its vapor pressure equals the external pressure.
Dùng để tính áp suất hơi ở nhiệt độ khác hoặc suy ra enthalpy bay hơi từ hai cặp áp suất–nhiệt độ.Use it to find the vapor pressure at a different temperature, or to obtain the enthalpy of vaporization from two pressure–temperature pairs.

A high vapor pressure signals weak intermolecular forces, not weak bonds.
Molecules escape into the vapor easily because attractions between molecules are weak, but no bonds within a molecule break.
At dynamic equilibrium, neither the amount of liquid nor the surface area sets the vapor pressure.
A larger surface speeds up evaporation and condensation equally; the equilibrium value changes only with temperature or with the identity of the substance.
Dynamic equilibrium does not mean evaporation has stopped.
Molecules keep leaving and returning to the liquid. The amount of vapor stays constant because evaporation and condensation occur at equal rates.
For cis–trans isomers, weigh London dispersion forces and the dipole moment together.
In the usual problem the bond dipoles in the trans isomer are equal and opposite, so they cancel, while in the cis isomer they do not. If dispersion forces are comparable, the cis isomer has extra dipole–dipole attraction and therefore a lower vapor pressure.
At the same external pressure, rank boiling points from vapor pressures.
At a given temperature, stronger intermolecular forces mean a lower vapor pressure, so the substance must be heated more to reach the external pressure. A more volatile substance therefore boils at a lower temperature.
