galvanic cellVietnamese: pin galvani
Còn gọi:Also called: pin volta · voltaic cell · pin điện hóa galvani

Pin galvani là thiết bị biến đổi năng lượng hóa học thành điện năng thông qua phản ứng oxi hóa–khử tự diễn biến.A galvanic cell is a device that converts chemical energy into electrical energy by means of a spontaneous oxidation–reduction reaction.
Intuition: Picture two reservoirs at different heights joined by a pipe: water flows downhill on its own, and that flow can turn a mill wheel. A galvanic cell works the same way, except what "falls" is electrons rather than water.
A galvanic cell converts the energy released by a spontaneous oxidation–reduction reaction into a direct current. Oxidation takes place at the negative anode and reduction at the positive cathode; electrons travel through the external wire from anode to cathode.
A salt bridge carries ions between the two half-cells, keeping each solution electrically neutral and completing the circuit. For a reaction that is spontaneous in the direction written, and ; a negative cell potential means that direction is not spontaneous and an external power source is required.
Dùng để tính thế pin khi nồng độ khác 1 M hoặc nhiệt độ khác 25 °C.Used to find the cell potential when concentrations differ from 1 M or the temperature differs from 25 °C.

Electrode potentials are never multiplied by balancing coefficients.
A half-reaction may have to be scaled to balance electrons, but potential is an intensive quantity and stays the same.
Electrons do not travel through the salt bridge.
They move through the external wire from anode to cathode, while the salt bridge sends anions toward the anode and cations toward the cathode to preserve charge neutrality.
In a galvanic cell the anode is the negative electrode.
The anode is always the site of oxidation and pushes electrons into the external wire; the electrode signs are reversed in an electrolytic cell.
Find electrode mass changes through the chain charge → moles of electrons → moles of substance.
Compute , divide by to get moles of electrons, then apply the electron coefficient and the molar mass.
Check the sign of the standard cell potential.
For a galvanic cell running in the spontaneous direction the value must be positive, so assign the half-reaction with the larger reduction potential as the cathode and subtract the anode potential from it.
