comparison testVietnamese: tiêu chuẩn so sánh
Tiêu chuẩn so sánh (comparison test) là cách xét chuỗi hay tích phân suy rộng hội tụ hoặc phân kỳ bằng cách so nó với một chuỗi đã biết kết quả, các số hạng đều không âm.The comparison test determines whether a series or improper integral with nonnegative terms converges or diverges by comparing it with a series whose behavior is already known.
Intuition: Picture two faucets that only pour water out and never draw any back. Faucet A never runs faster than faucet B. If B's total output is finite, so is A's. If A's total output is already infinite, so is B's.

The comparison test uses a series whose convergence behavior is known to decide the behavior of the series in question. All terms must be nonnegative. If the given series is smaller than a convergent series, it converges. If it is larger than a divergent series, it diverges. "Smaller" and "larger" refer to a term-by-term comparison.
Example: and converges, so converges. The inequality only needs to hold from some term onward. The two opposite cases (smaller than a divergent series, larger than a convergent series) give no conclusion. When the inequality goes the wrong way, the limit comparison test may work for series with positive terms. Improper integrals of nonnegative functions have an analogous rule.
Chứng minh chuỗi không âm hội tụ: chặn trên nó bằng một chuỗi hội tụ đã biết, như chuỗi hình học hoặc chuỗi với .To show that a nonnegative series converges, bound it above by a known convergent series, such as a geometric series or a -series with .
Trong đóWhere
Chứng minh chuỗi phân kỳ: chặn dưới nó bằng một chuỗi không âm đã biết phân kỳ, như chuỗi điều hòa hoặc chuỗi với .To show that a series diverges, bound it below by a known divergent series with nonnegative terms, such as the harmonic series or a -series with .
A series smaller than a divergent series, or larger than a convergent series, gives no conclusion.
For example, and diverges, yet converges.
You must check that the terms are nonnegative before comparing.
For example, gives . Without the lower bound , the comparison has no justification.
The inequality does not have to hold for every term; it only has to hold from some term onward.
The first few terms do not affect whether a series converges or diverges.
Viết đủ ba ý: bất đẳng thức, chuỗi so sánh hội tụ hay phân kỳ kèm lý do, rồi kết luận.
Write all three parts: the inequality, whether the comparison series converges or diverges with a reason, and the conclusion.
AP graders award points for each part. For example: , and is a -series with , so it converges; therefore the given series converges.
The comparison series must be larger than the given series and convergent, or smaller and divergent.
A divergent series that is larger than the given series is a classic multiple-choice trap. Check the direction of the inequality first.
